Can raw wool be sent to an individual in the US directly from a sheep farm in Ireland? To spin/dye/weave.?

A sheep farmer has offered to send about 40# directly to me after his sheep are sheared in June or July. It would in “fresh off the sheep” condition. Will the US allow this? We want to stay legal. This is not for sale-just personal use for fiber art.

  1. ShadowWeaselTheVampire says:

check with importing law between Ireland and the US

Yes, If there is no intent to create or market a product that competes with U. S. Sheep farmers. If it does, there are a host of tariff and trade regulations that are just nightmarish to understand and follow. On a commercial scale, this problem is before the WTO right now.

Why not just get the wool from local sheep? Is the Irish wool that different for the art you intend to produce?
