How did I end up with green eyes?

My mom and her mother and a couple siblings have blue eyes. Her father and the rest of her siblings have brown eyes. My fathers entire family has brown eyes, even his half siblings. Two of my siblings have brown eyes, my sister has clear blue eyes and I am the black sheep with green eyes….what happened?
My mom and her mother and a couple siblings have blue eyes. Her father and the rest of her siblings have brown eyes. My fathers entire family has brown eyes, even his half siblings. Two of my siblings have brown eyes, my sister has clear blue eyes and I am the black sheep with green eyes. They were blue until I was about 8, then they turned hazel. When I got to be about 16 they turned pale green and have been ever since. (They look more green when I wear blue and look more blue when I wear green….freaks my friends out! :0P)
just to clairify, I love my eyes!! Green is my favorite color.
First off, it could be a recessive gene.
A recessive gene is a part of your DNA (what makes you, you!) and is called “recessive” because it doesn’t always show. If anyone in either of your family lines related to you by blood had green eyes, that gene could have been passed down.
Brown eyes is a dominant gene, so, it’s more likely to show up than Blue or Green.
Hope I helped.
both your parents had a recessive gene for green eyes…
In my family, my mom has green eyes & my dad has gray. All 3 of my sisters have green eyes, my bro has blue & I have brown.
Things like that happen in genetics sometimes. There are dominant and recessive genes. Dominant ones are visible and recessive genes are not. It is possible that one of your parents had the green eye gene that was recessive and it became dominant in you.
There are other possibilities but I just thought I should talk about my very limited knowledge of genetics
Green eyes are beautiful! By no means are you the “black sheep”! Most in my family have blue or grey eyes, mine are very green!
This is probably better off in a Biology subject heading, but anyways…
It all comes down to genetics. The blue eyes exhibited in you mothers eyes are fairly uncommon. This is why only one child got them.
The Brown eyes from your fathers side not only makes the eyes brown but can overpower a different eye color (like green) that runs in his family. that’s why two children have brown colored eyes.
Your green eyes are caused by a complex genealogy and a little bit of random chance. There’s nothing wrong with them and you should wear them with pride.
